Calamo is used in incense blends in ancient Mesopotamia and by the ancient Egyptians in their blends of Kyphi, the root of Calamus also known as sweet cane and sweet flag. Calamus root is said to strengthen the nerves, improve energy and is useful in times of exhaustion and is good for balancing vata in Ayurveda.
